Oxford police travel 370 miles to Edinburgh to arrest man who failed to appear in court

Published on

Thames Valley Police officers undertook a lengthy journey to locate and detain a suspect from Oxford who had allegedly avoided a court appearance.

The force coordinated with Police Scotland to apprehend the individual in Edinburgh, more than 370 miles from Oxfordshire.

Following the arrest, the man was transported back to Oxford to face charges related to his failure to appear in court as required.

The operation demonstrated the extent to which police forces will go to ensure that individuals who fail to comply with court orders are brought to justice.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police emphasised that attempting to evade court obligations by relocating elsewhere in the United Kingdom does not provide protection from enforcement action.

The force indicated that collaborative efforts between different police services play a vital role in locating wanted individuals and ensuring legal proceedings can proceed.

Officers stated that locating those subject to court warrants remains a priority, with the objective of ensuring justice is served and that those affected by offences are not overlooked.
