More than 400 fresh entries have been incorporated into the Oxford English Dictionary during its most recent revision.
Oxford University Press released the September 2026 quarterly refresh, introducing terminology spanning topics from food and drink to digital communication.
Among the newcomers were the concept of a deliberately fabricated dictionary entry designed to expose plagiarism, the practice of treating opposing viewpoints as equally credible despite insufficient evidence, a breakfast dish prepared the previous evening, a chilled coffee preparation method, and the social media interpretation of chronological feeds.
The reference work, which catalogues in excess of half a million definitions, undergoes revision four times annually to maintain relevance with contemporary linguistic developments.
Terms such as floor-based clothing storage, self-deprecating boasts, and a trans-Pacific phrasebook favourite also appeared in the dictionary’s mid-year revision, demonstrating how everyday habits and regional expressions become embedded within the language.
The inclusion of such vocabulary underscores the publication’s commitment to documenting how technology, social platforms, and routine behaviour continue to reshape English communication.
