An Oxfordshire coroner’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the passing of Mark Anthony Jennings is scheduled to commence this week.
The 27-year-old Irish postgraduate was pronounced deceased by Dr Andrew Smith on April 28, with his remains discovered inside lavatory facilities at the Curzon cinema located within the Westgate retail complex.
Police constable Tori Stackhouse attended the venue the subsequent day, April 29, to formally identify the body.
Coroner Darren Salter commenced proceedings regarding Mr Jennings’ death on June 10 at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court.
Prior to this, a post-mortem examination was undertaken to establish the medical circumstances of his passing.
The findings recorded a non-traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage alongside evidence of recent Ketamine and alcohol consumption.
The full judicial inquest is slated for October 7 at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court, where further details surrounding the incident will be examined.
Mr Jennings entered the world on February 25, 1999, in Dublin.
He had been enrolled as a doctoral researcher at Christ Church College commencing September 2021.
At the time of his passing, he was engaged in pursuing a PhD focused on the Mathematics of Random Systems.
His prior academic achievements included First Class honours in Mathematics from University College Dublin.
In 2020, Mr Jennings received the prestigious Hamilton Prize in Mathematics from the Irish institution, an honour bestowed upon the highest-performing students during their penultimate year of undergraduate study.
A public notice of his passing indicated he would be mourned by his devastated family, including his parents, extended relatives and companions.
His funeral ceremony was conducted last month in Westport, County Mayo.
