The celebrated actor Jeremy Irons has been confirmed as a performer at this year’s prominent Oxford charity concert.
The distinguished 78-year-old, whose career extends across more than four decades of film, television and stage work, will appear at Christ Church Cathedral in December for Macmillan’s annual festive fundraiser.
Known for voicing the menacing Scar in Disney’s The Lion King, Irons also portrayed Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s faithful household manager, across several DC superhero productions.
His television work includes the role of Adrian Veidt, the character also called Ozymandias, in HBO’s acclaimed limited series Watchmen.
The performer’s extensive screen history encompasses adaptations such as Brideshead Revisited, historical dramas including The Borgias, action films like Die Hard with a Vengeance, period epics such as Kingdom of Heaven, biographical pictures including The Man Who Knew Infinity, crime stories like House of Gucci and recent releases such as The Beekeeper.
He earned the Academy Award for Best Actor portraying Claus von Bülow in Reversal of Fortune.
Irons will be accompanied by his wife Sinead Cusack, their son Max Irons, along with Toby Jones and Mel Giedroyc.
The musical element will be delivered by the Oxford Bach Soloists, with celebrated tenor Thomas Elwin adding to the vocal performances.
Macmillan’s Follow the Stars carol concert has established itself as a fixture of Oxford’s yuletide programme over three decades, raising significant sums for cancer support.
