Ex-Hugo Boss staff discuss life after leaving Westgate store

A spokesperson for the fashion company has spoken out after its store at Oxford Westgate centre ceased operations, having traded from the location for more than eight years.

The brand locked up at the Oxford city centre shopping destination this month, originally launching in October 2017 as part of the £440 million regeneration project.

It ranked among the initial retailers for the shopping centre’s revamp, together with John Lewis, Primark and Next.

A Hugo Boss representative said the company regularly refines its worldwide store network as part of its strategic direction, which has impacted the Boss outlet at Oxford Westgate Centre.

The company confirmed it would continue to maintain a significant footprint across the United Kingdom, while also keeping its digital flagship at hugoboss.com available for customers.

The retailer declined to reveal whether any positions were eliminated due to the closure.

The spokesperson indicated that staff were redeployed wherever feasible through relocations or alternative internal positions.

Additional outlets operate in the surrounding area, such as branches at Bicester Village, Swindon and Reading.

A Westgate representative said the venue remained dedicated to establishing Westgate Oxford as an exciting and diverse shopping destination for visitors, with fresh names like Sephora, The Beefy Boys and Lego’s spring opening on the horizon, alongside recent store expansions for Oliver Bonas, Goldsmiths and Superdrug.

Further announcements about additional brands arriving at the centre would be shared shortly.
