The frontman who shot to fame four decades ago is topping the bill at a British music event next month as part of his campaign to rescue a traditional inn on the edge of Oxfordshire.

Hadley became known worldwide during the 1980s as the vocalist for new wave group Spandau Ballet, performing memorable songs such as True, Gold and Through The Barricades.

The musician, now 66, built his reputation on his distinctive, dynamic voice and has maintained a thriving solo career since departing from the band, alongside working in theatre and hosting radio programmes.

Hadley has thrown his support behind efforts to preserve The Rose & Thistle in Haddenham near Thame, which sits just beyond the Oxfordshire boundary in Buckinghamshire.

Residents are working to bring the historic coaching inn back into use. The establishment traces its origins to the 1700s but shut its doors in 2019.

Currently, the fundraising initiative has accumulated more than £109,000, representing approximately 14 percent of the £750,000 target needed to secure the venue’s future.

Hadley encouraged supporters to purchase shares to support the crowdfunding effort, describing the establishment as a wonderful local spot he had visited on numerous occasions and emphasising the importance of protecting village and town pubs across the country.

Following this push to revive the venue, it has now been revealed that he will perform as one of five headlining acts at Jersey’s Weekender Festival this September.

The lineup celebrating 1980s music also includes Bros singer Matt Goss, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw, and Scottish pairing Hue and Cry on Saturday 12 September.

Alex James, the bassist from Britpop group Blur, was previously announced earlier in the year as the Friday 11 September headliner for the festival.
