Thames Valley Police have launched a murder investigation after a child died in a location near Oxfordshire.
The youngster, whose age and gender have not been revealed, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where they later died.
On March 26, officers arrested two people on suspicion of murder and unlawfully wounding: a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both from Slough.
Police confirmed both suspects have been released on conditional bail as enquiries proceed.
The incident occurred in Slough, Berkshire, which lies outside Oxfordshire.
Detective inspector Nick Hind, from the force’s major crime unit, described the incident as an extraordinary tragedy, with a child suffering critical injuries and later passing away in hospital. He said the investigation remains in its preliminary phases and that two people have been detained in connection with the matter and released on conditional bail while officers pursue their inquiries and explore additional leads. He acknowledged that the situation would understandably worry local residents. However, he stated that based on current evidence, police do not assess any wider risk to the general public.
