This week, the county was officially classified as being in drought status, while Thames Water maintains its hosepipe restrictions for homes.
Prior to this year, the maximum number of days with temperatures reaching or exceeding 35C stood at five, a threshold first achieved in 1976 and repeated in 2020.

Its forecast indicates thundery downpours beginning on Tuesday, August 4.
These conditions may persist through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Met Office is also forecasting precipitation during this timeframe.
July 2026 has now gone down in records as one of the driest months ever recorded, with England receiving merely seven per cent of its typical rainfall, and southern England receiving just one per cent.
