State Pension 2026: Complete Payment Guide for Seniors

Published on

The government department responsible for social security has announced that retirement benefits will increase starting in spring 2026, affecting millions of recipients.

The confirmed changes include adjustments to state pension amounts and related allowances, with specific figures for the 2026/27 financial year.

Pensioners receiving the full New State Pension combined with the higher rate of Attendance Allowance could see their weekly income increase by more than £15, translating to approximately £780 extra annually before accounting for Pension Credit modifications.

State Pension Details

The primary retirement benefit will see the following adjustments:

New State Pension: The weekly amount increases from £230.25 to £241.30, representing a rise of £11.05 per week or roughly £575 extra annually.

Basic (Old) State Pension: Recipients in Category A or B will receive £184.90 per week in 2026/27, up from £176.45.

Those in Category B (lower) or Categories C or D will see payments rise from £105.70 to £110.75 weekly.

The maximum Additional Pension, including both own and inherited amounts, will increase from £222.10 to £230.54.

While the percentage increase is lower than the previous year’s substantial rise, the monetary gain remains meaningful for those depending on the full New State Pension.

Pension Credit

Income-tested support for older adults with limited resources will also increase. This benefit serves as an entry point to other important allowances.

Standard Minimum Guarantee: Single claimants receive £238.00 (up from £227.10), while couples receive £363.25 (up from £346.60).

Severe Disability Addition: Single claimants receive £86.05 (up from £82.90), and couples where both partners qualify receive £172.10 (up from £165.80).

Carer Addition increases to £48.15 from £46.40.

Savings Credit: The threshold for single claimants rises to £208.07 from £198.27, with the maximum increasing to £17.96 from £17.30.

Attendance Allowance

Support for those requiring assistance with personal care increases as follows:

Higher rate rises to £114.60 from £110.40, while lower rate increases to £76.70 from £73.90. This translates to annual increases of £218 for the higher rate and £145 for the lower rate.

Disability and Ill-Health Payments

Although many working-age individuals now receive Personal Independence Payment, some pensioners continue receiving legacy benefits.

Disability Living Allowance Care Component: Highest rate increases to £114.60 from £110.40, middle rate to £76.70 from £73.90, and lowest rate to £30.30 from £29.20.

Personal Independence Payment Daily Living: Enhanced rate rises to £114.60 from £110.40, standard rate to £76.70 from £73.90.

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit at the standard 100% rate increases to £233.90 from £225.30.

Constant Attendance Allowance at the exceptional rate rises to £187.20 from £180.40.

These changes can add several hundred pounds annually for older claimants with industrial injuries or serious disabilities.

Bereavement Support

Widowed Parent’s Allowance increases to £156.65 from £150.90. However, Bereavement Support Payment lump sums remain unchanged at £2,500 for standard cases and £3,500 for higher amounts.

Carer’s Allowance

The allowance for unpaid carers increases to £86.45 from £83.30, with the weekly earnings limit rising to £204 from £196.

Housing Benefit and Pension-Age Personal Allowances

For claimants who have reached State Pension age, personal allowances increase to £256.00 from £244.40 for single individuals or lone parents, and to £383.35 from £366.00 for couples.

Dependent child allowance rises to £87.88 from £84.66.

Severe disability premium for single claimants increases to £86.05 from £82.90.

Unchanged Elements

Certain limits remain frozen: the Benefit Cap, capital upper limit for means-tested benefits at £16,000, capital disregard at £6,000, Pension Credit capital upper limit at unlimited, and the addition at age 80 for State Pension at 25p.

These frozen elements partially offset the headline weekly increases.

The Triple Lock

Much of this adjustment stems from the Triple Lock mechanism, which ensures the UK State Pension increases annually by whichever is highest: inflation, average earnings growth, or 2.5%. This guarantees pensions maintain or improve their purchasing power.

For April 2026, the New State Pension will increase by 4.
