The supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has issued a statement following the temporary shutdown of a petrol station located at one of its superstores in Oxfordshire.

The retailer confirmed that its fuel forecourt at the Banbury location on Oxford Road was closed for a short period during the morning hours on Saturday, March 28.

According to reports, the closure stemmed from a technical issue, with operations resuming by the afternoon.

This statement from Sainsbury’s arrives as concerns mount across the country regarding fuel costs amid ongoing tensions in the Iran conflict and the continued blockage of the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz.

Data compiled by the RAC indicates that the typical cost per litre of petrol now exceeds 150 pence, while diesel prices have climbed beyond 170 pence.

Fuel providers have dismissed accusations of taking advantage of the situation while also attempting to reassure consumers that all fuel types remain readily available at stations.
