Motorway construction on the M40 is causing disruption for people making the journey between London and Oxford, with a coach operator modifying its standard service.

The Oxford Tube, which provides transport between the two cities, has confirmed that Saturday’s highway works will prevent it from calling at its usual Lewknor stop. Travellers will be advised to use the Mercure Lambert Arms halt instead.

The update comes after multiple scheduled motorway shutdowns were arranged for this weekend.

Road crews will be conducting repairs on the M40 northbound carriageway between interchanges 5 and 7. The project will include lane restrictions, inaccessible slip roads, and a signed diversion route. This work is programmed to commence at 10.15pm and run through until 6am, with both the exit and entry slip roads at Junction 6 impacted.

An Oxford Tube spokesperson explained that the slip roads at M40 Junction 6 heading towards Oxford would both be shut overnight due to the construction starting at 10.15pm and ending at 6am. The regular stop at Lewknor would be unavailable, with the Mercure Lambert Arms stop serving as the replacement. Any disruption caused was regretted.

These specific closures will not take place on Sunday night, although further limitations are expected in the vicinity on Monday, March 30.

Drivers using the M40 southbound between junctions 6 and 4 should expect lane closures, an inaccessible entry slip road, and a diversion while the repairs proceed. The work will span from 10.15pm until 6am.

At the same time, work teams will be active on the M40 northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 6, involving lane restrictions, a shut exit slip road, and a diversion route during the identical timeframe.
