A football legends event in Oxfordshire has been cancelled, although tickets were apparently still being sold after the cancellation was announced.

Didcot Town FC posted a notice on Saturday 28 March telling fans that the event planned for Sunday 29 March would not be taking place.

The programme was advertised as an afternoon showcasing three former Leeds United players: Gordon Strachan, Mel Sterland and Jon Newsome.

Among the trio, Mr Strachan is the most high-profile figure, having also managed Southampton, Celtic, Middlesbrough and the Scotland national team.

The club’s marketing materials described it as an unmissable evening full of historic anecdotes from their time at the Yorkshire club, humorous behind-the-scenes recollections and additional entertainment.

Despite the cancellation, Didcot Town confirmed that even after asking TD Promotions to stop ticket sales, purchases were still possible on the Saturday.

At present, the event appears on the TD Promotions website as having sold out, with no sign of the cancellation being acknowledged.

Didcot Town Football Club commented that the gathering featuring Gordon Strachan, Mel Sterland and Jon Newsome at the club on the Sunday had been called off. They noted that despite requesting TD Promotions withdraw tickets from sale, they continued to appear as available. TD Promotions indicated it would reach out to all ticket purchasers the following week regarding refunds. In September 2025, Didcot Town FC welcomed former Leeds United forwards Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio for a separate function arranged through TD Promotions.
