A major showcase exploring the life and impact of Sir John Vanbrugh has received an extension at its current location.

Blueprints of Power at Blenheim Palace was originally scheduled to conclude on April 10, but will now remain open until the end of May.

This prolonging marks the tricentenary of Sir John Vanbrugh’s death. He was the architect responsible for the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Heather Carter, the attraction’s managing director, said the exhibition attracted considerable attention and sparked conversations among visitors spanning all age groups.

She expressed delight at the response and explained that the decision to extend the run was made so that guests could learn more about Sir John Vanbrugh’s remarkable story.

From his architectural accomplishments to his vibrant character, the collection showcases unique items, interactive experiences, and a stunning finale in the Long Library that makes it a must-see for those interested in history, architecture, and the fascinating account behind Blenheim Palace.

The display offers an engaging journey through Vanbrugh’s varied career, moving from his theatrical beginnings to his architectural legacy, and examines his close relationship with Sarah Churchill, the First Duchess of Marlborough.

Visitors begin their experience in the Great Hall, where detailed replicas, construction plans, and personal letters showcase Vanbrugh’s complete body of work, before progressing through additional rooms that highlight his influences and connections.

The centrepiece is housed in the Long Library, featuring a multimedia presentation with visual projections, audio, and movement.

This section recounts the narrative of Blenheim Palace’s development.

Admission to the Blueprints of Power exhibition is included with standard day entry or a Pass to Britain’s Greatest Palace.
