Families have been scrambling to secure alternative early years provision for their youngsters following news that a local nursery is shutting its doors this week.

Earlier this month, confirmation came through that Badgemoor Preschool in Henley will cease operations on Thursday, April 2.

The Hop Gardens facility, which has operated for just five school years, cited modifications to state funding and escalating staffing expenses among the contributing factors to its closure.

Employer national insurance payments rose to 15 percent from April of last year, while the qualifying threshold was reduced to £5,000.

The statutory wage for workers climbed 6.7 percent to £12.21 hourly, a development that has placed considerable strain on industries with lower pay scales throughout Britain.

Henley preschool company director Marina Sturmey revealed the shutdown with “deep sadness.”

She stated: “Our preschool has provided dedicated service to the local community since September 2019, and this choice was not taken without careful consideration.

Nonetheless, climbing staff costs, alterations to government funding, and the broader economic landscape have rendered continued operations unsustainable.

This represents a circumstance we never anticipated facing, and we recognise how unsettling this transition will prove for families.

In the weeks ahead, we will collaborate individually with each family to offer support, clarity, and seamless arrangements for their children.

We wish to extend our sincere gratitude for the happiness, confidence, and community spirit you have brought to our setting.

Having been part of your children’s formative years stands as a privilege we will forever value.”

The Hop Gardens establishment serves approximately 300 youngsters, according to its online platform.
