A major affordable housing project in Oxfordshire is approaching completion, with celebrations marking significant milestones.

Cottsway Housing Association came together to mark the nearing finish of its 271-home development at Brize Meadow in West Oxfordshire.

The initiative, situated between Brize Norton and Carterton, represents one of the association’s most substantial development undertakings.

Andrew Hall, outgoing chair of Cottsway, stated: “This is one of our largest development sites, delivering a significant number of much-needed affordable homes for people from the local area.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with partners to bring this scheme forward, and it’s great to see it so close to completion.

“I leave Cottsway knowing that it is in great hands, with a clear vision for the future to provide more affordable homes for more people in need, while investing in existing homes and supporting both customers and local communities.”

The Brize Meadow gathering coincided with Cottsway’s 25th anniversary and Mr Hall’s last day with the association.

Anne McLoughlin took over as the new chair.

Among the 271 residences at Brize Meadow, 147 are designated for affordable rental, 23 for social rental, and 101 for shared ownership.

Ten properties remain unfinished.

Ms McLoughlin, officially welcomed as chair at the event, commented: “With Brize Meadow nearing completion and our 6,000th home due to be delivered soon, this is an exciting time for the organisation and for the people we support and work in partnership with.

“I believe everyone deserves a safe, decent place to call home, and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of Cottsway over the past 25 years for making this possible for the thousands of people who live in our homes.

“I’d also like to thank all our customers for being with us.

“I look forward to being part of Cottsway’s future and putting customer voice at the centre of everything we do.”

The residences account for 33 per cent of the association’s goal of 833 homes under its current Corporate Plan, covering the period from April 2023 to March 2028.

Brize Meadow forms part of a broader Bloor Homes development, which will ultimately provide 799 homes.

The comprehensive project additionally features a primary school, sports pitches, allotments, employment areas, retail spaces, and an expansion to the country park.

Building work commenced in 2018.

Numerous new streets bear the names of parish inhabitants who lost their lives during the First World War and later conflicts.

Additional names reference historical field names, previous leaders of St Britius Church, and distinctive local landmarks.
