A young person has been detained after police say a stabbing left a man needing medical care.

Paramedics and officers were sent to Millbrook Square in Grove at around 9:10pm on Thursday, April 2nd following a clash between two men.

The victim, who is in his twenties, suffered a knife wound to his underarm area and was taken to hospital. His condition was not considered life-threatening.

He has now left hospital.

Officers picked up an 18-year-old man from Grove on Saturday, April 4th on suspicion of several crimes including assault by beating, assault causing actual bodily harm, carrying a knife in a public place, and malicious wounding with intent contrary to section 18. He remains in police custody.

The investigation is being led by detective inspector Iain Roberts, who is asking anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

Roberts expressed particular interest in speaking with anyone who has not yet provided a statement to police and encouraged anyone with knowledge regarding this assault to make contact.

Roberts acknowledged that incidents of this nature caused worry within the local community and sought to assure residents that they would probably notice an elevated police presence in the area as the investigation progressed.
