An undercover customer assessment has named an Oxfordshire Asda branch as the worst-performing outlet in the region.

The trade journal The Grocer sent a mystery shopper to assess supermarkets throughout Oxfordshire based on various criteria.

The Asda branch on London Road in Wheatley came bottom of the league table, with the assessor describing the site as unappealing.

According to the industry publication, the Asda on London Road in Wheatley, roughly seven miles from Oxford, ranked last, falling 15 points behind the next lowest.

The assessor observed the entrance looked unappealing because a waste bin was placed right next to it filled with discarded cigarette ends.

Conditions did not get any better inside the branch.

The outlet was described as heavily worn and messy, with insufficient lighting and rubbish spread across the floor.

The assessor found there was nothing commendable about this cramped location where finding products was particularly challenging.

The only positive remark about the entire visit was the opportunity to spend time with my daughter.

In contrast, the highest-scoring Oxfordshire supermarket was Waitrose on Botley Road, where the assessor praised the excellent store layout and described the branch as immaculate, well-kept and clear of rubbish with a good range of products available.

Sainsbury’s at Heyford Hill took second place, helped by its relatively modern interior design.
