A proposal to bring a new Greggs location to Oxford’s Cowley Road has been put forward, marking another expansion for the bakery chain in the area.

An application seeking permission for new signage featuring the well-known Greggs logo has been filed with Oxford City Council for a space at Tyndale House along Cowley Road.

The signage would be placed on a currently empty unit adjacent to the Sainsbury’s Local, across from the Brewdog pub that has permanently closed at the Princes Street junction.

The proposed bakery and cafe would occupy approximately half of the available vacant space, which formerly housed a Superdrug store, according to the submitted plans.

This location would join two existing Greggs locations serving southern Oxford – one situated within the Templars Square shopping centre and another in Littlemore – though this newest branch would be significantly nearer to the city centre.

The successful bakery chain also maintains three additional outlets throughout the city: one inside Oxford Railway Station, another on Cornmarket Street, and a third on London Road in Headington.

Part of the submission outlines the necessity for mechanical equipment, comprising air conditioning systems, ventilation grilles and exhaust vents.

The representative filing the plans on behalf of Greggs Plc stated this equipment would be positioned unobtrusively and would not generate any negative effects regarding sound, smell or neighbourhood quality.

Should the proposal receive approval, the proposed operating hours would span Monday through Sunday, from 6am until 8pm.

The application remains available for public feedback until May 13, with the council’s determination expected before month’s end.
