TV star pitched up at monarch’s Cotswold garden retreat

The well-known TV cook Dame Mary Berry once camped on the grounds of King Charles’ country home in the Cotswolds.

The acclaimed culinary expert appeared as a panellist on the show during its BBC years from 2010 to 2016, before it transferred to Channel 4.

Since 2019 she has made her home in Henley, in southern Oxfordshire, with her husband Paul Hunnings.

The nonagenarian has now revealed that she previously erected a tent in the garden of Highgrove House, which sits just over the Oxfordshire border in the Cotswolds.

GB News’ Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker recently spoke with the baking icon about the royal estate during an interview.

The Gloucestershire property was acquired by the then-Prince in 1980, and over more than four decades he has carefully transformed its grounds into renowned environmentally-friendly and organic gardens.

Mr Walker explained that well before King Charles purchased the property, Dame Mary and a companion were allowed to stay in the grounds during the early 1950s.

Dame Mary recalled that the bathtub was particularly large and constructed from brass, with a drain that demanded an oversized plunger to operate.

She expressed interest in knowing whether the present King and Queen still own this elaborate fixture, and whether the tub remains in use today.
