The Conservative team in West Oxfordshire has kicked off its campaign for the local elections, outlining goals for a better council and highlighting the need for change across the district.

Backers and those seeking election gathered in Carterton to unveil the campaign, showcasing their existing community involvement alongside plans to improve services throughout the area.

Michele Mead, who heads the Conservative group on the district council, explained that her team is committed to working for local people, whether protecting vital services, supporting neighbourhoods, or guaranteeing that new housing developments come with required infrastructure.

According to the Conservative team, the Liberal Democrat-led coalition currently running the council is not delivering the improvements residents deserve. They believe a different approach is possible and they are ready to take on the job.

Liam Walker, the Conservative group’s second-in-command, noted that the team was pleased to be starting the campaign in Carterton with a strong slate of committed local hopefuls.

According to the party, this election is about backing representatives who remain involved in their communities all year round, listening to residents and speaking up for them.

According to the Conservatives, across West Oxfordshire, people are raising the same issues – they want better services and stronger leadership. The party has created a full plan to deliver this and build a council that works for everyone.

The Conservatives have outlined that their campaign will focus on their vision for a better council, including stopping misuse of public money, calling for the removal of the new Liberal Democrat booking system for waste sites, and encouraging sensible development throughout the district with spending on infrastructure such as roads and drainage.

Conservative candidates will face off against nominees from Labour, Liberal Democrats, the Greens, Reform and independent candidates.

Balloting takes place on Thursday, May 7.
