A shopping centre is giving away free books to celebrate the yearly literary event.
Westgate Oxford has teamed up with Oxford Westgate Library for the event on Saturday, April 18, from 10am until 3pm.
The scheme aims to encourage reading during the National Year of Reading and ahead of World Book Night on April 23.
Clare Martin, acting centre director at Westgate Oxford, said the team was delighted to work with Oxford Westgate Library to offer visitors a selection of complimentary books to choose from ahead of World Book Night and #ReadingHour.
Through these engaging and inspiring freebies alongside various spaces to relax in the centre, including the ART and PLAY installation, the goal is to provide the local community with both the opportunity and setting to socialise while discovering a great new book.
This represents a wonderful opportunity to highlight the essential role the library plays in our city, and the team is proud to help link visitors with the excellent local services available on their doorstep.
The books will be handed out at the Guest Experience pod close to JD Sports, with fiction and non-fiction titles available for all age groups.
A selection of children’s books curated especially for young readers will also be on offer.
Darius Welsh, assistant library manager at Oxford Westgate Library, said readers could rediscover the joy of reading this World Book Night by collecting a free book from the giveaway with Westgate Oxford.
For those who already love reading, they were welcome to pick up a book for a friend, as sharing the joy of discovering new stories with others should be encouraged.
