A chef with treasured recollections of Oxford is anticipating her upcoming visit to prepare meals at a city hotel.
The establishment located at the intersection of Cornmarket Street and Broad Street is collaborating with Rosemary Shrager.
The celebrity chef will oversee a two-day chef takeover at the hotel’s restaurant, Treadwell, commencing on Friday, April 17.
Mrs Shrager has built a reputation for her straightforward, robust cooking style and her characteristic infectious laughter.
She has become a familiar face on food and lifestyle programming, and gained additional popularity following her appearance in the jungle on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2012.
Mrs Shrager remarked: “Oxford is a city I’ve revisited over the years, and now with my grandson attending the university there, it feels even more meaningful.
There’s something about this place—the heritage, the ambiance—that consistently draws me back. I hold wonderful memories here, including a visit with my husband when I purchased a pearl necklace for a friend from a small antique shop that remains in operation today, which is rather delightful.
It’s a wonderful location to spend time, and returning to cook at Treadwell within The Store, right in the center of the city, is a real privilege. I’m genuinely excited for the weekend—it will be tremendous fun.”
The chef intends to guide diners through a culinary journey revisiting the dishes that once characterized British dinner parties.
Patrons can anticipate classic favorites.
The evening commences with a cocktail, followed by a carefully selected five-course menu drawing inspiration from retro classics, featuring Celeriac cappuccino with a surf and turf assiette, smoked haddock gratin accompanied by toasted brioche, and lamb served with shallots, glazed baby mushrooms, fine French beans and creamy mash.
Dessert offerings include chocolate truffle cake with caramel sauce, chocolate ice cream quenelle, and pears poached in red wine accompanied by rum cakes.
Mrs Shrager is a chef, author and television personality who has spent years demonstrating to Britain how to prepare food that is abundant and full of flavor.
Her professional career includes a stint working for Pierre Koffman at the Tante Claire restaurant in London as well as a period employed by Jean-Christophe Novelli.
Her recent television programs include The Big Family Cooking Showdown and The Real Marigold Hotel, which broadcast on BBC to considerable praise and received multiple award nominations and wins.
This represents the second chef takeover event hosted by The Store. The initial session earlier this year featured Sabrina Gidda.
