Oxfordshire’s adorable pets: Share your National Pet Day photos

Published on

On an annual basis, pet enthusiasts worldwide observe National Pet Day, a globally acknowledged occasion dedicated to honoring the animal companions in people’s lives. To commemorate this year’s observance, which took place on Saturday, April 11, we have compiled a collection of standout photographs featuring pets from Oxfordshire spanning multiple years.

The archives of Oxford Mail contain images demonstrating that residents have been honouring their animal companions for many years, regardless of whether a celebration was officially taking place.

Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary hosted an event for the public featuring a pet exhibition. In one photograph from 2003, Jack Prince, aged 8, from Wallingford can be seen with a donkey inside the stables.

The compilation features charming images of cats and dogs, alongside various other animals including rabbits, donkeys, mice, snakes and tortoises.

Several photographs capture animals receiving blessings during special religious services. Additionally, one proprietor brought his canine to the workplace for a typical workday.

A resident of Oxford shared that she was ‘astounded’ by the collective effort from neighbours in locating her Chihuahua, which had escaped after becoming frightened during a walk.
