Householders in Cherwell are being advised to confirm their inclusion on the electoral roll ahead of the upcoming district council elections, with the cutoff set for Monday.

Voting will begin throughout the area on Thursday, May 7, as residents select their representatives for district councillor positions.

One-third of the contested seats on Cherwell District Council will be filled through this ballot.

Additional electoral contests are scheduled in Banbury Calthorpe, Easington, and Bicester West following the departure of several serving councillors.

The final date for voter registration is Monday, April 20.

Those already listed on the electoral roll require no further action, though individuals who have relocated, altered their name, or reached voting age since last registering must submit their applications by the deadline.

Gordon Stewart, Returning Officer, stated that the registration process takes mere moments to finish. He noted that local elections offer residents a significant opportunity to express their views and elect their preferred community representatives. He stressed the importance of completing registration before midnight on April 20 for participation in the May 7 vote.

Photographic identification will be obligatory for those casting their vote at polling stations.

Acceptable identification includes passports, driving licences, and certain travel passes.

Those without suitable identification may obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate.

Applications for these certificates must be received by 5pm on April 28.

Voters may choose between attending a polling station, submitting a postal ballot, or designating a proxy.

The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on April 21.

Proxy vote applications must be lodged by 5pm on April 28.
