People renting homes in Cherwell can now receive direct support from specialists at a network of walk-in centres that have been set up across the area.

Cherwell District Council has boosted how often it holds its monthly tenancy relations sessions to help residents working through housing matters.

These meetings are part of the council’s approach to integrating the Renters’ Rights Act requirements into the private rental market.

According to Kristian Aspinall, who leads Neighbourhood Services, residents throughout North Oxfordshire deserve to live in safe, comfortable accommodation managed to a high standard.

The team is expanding its community work to reach more people who have questions about their landlord, their tenancy agreement, or the conditions of their home.

With the Renters’ Rights Act becoming law on 1 May, the council is acting in advance to make certain that both property owners and tenants understand and benefit from these positive changes to how renting works.

Sessions will take place at Britannia Road Children’s Centre and Castle Quay in Banbury, Bicester Library, and WISH in Kidlington.

The next meeting is set for Friday 17 April at Bicester Library.

The incoming law will give private renters stronger protections by doing away with so-called no-fault evictions and introducing more balanced conditions for renting.

Landlords and tenants alike are welcome to come along to the walk-in sessions for advice and guidance.

Mr Aspinall noted that the housing team brings considerable experience and is ready to offer this convenient service at more locations across the district.
