A prominent television presenter who has featured on both BBC and Channel 4 has been handed a driving ban after being caught exceeding the speed limit in Oxfordshire.

The 44-year-old media figure was caught speeding twice while riding his Honda motorbike, including on the A43 near Brackley, close to Bicester, where he was doing 78mph in a temporary 50mph zone.

Through his solicitors, Isle of Man TT racer Guy Martin also admitted to riding at 46mph on the A50 near Leicester when the speed limit was 40mph.

Court papers show that Martin accumulated at least 12 penalty points on his driving licence and accepted that he must now undergo a six-month driving ban.

The television presenter achieved 17 podium finishes at the Isle of Man TT throughout his motorcycle racing career and has become known for his fascination with speed records.

In 2016 he made an attempt on the two-wheeled world land speed record, and he succeeded in setting world records for the fastest tractor, quickest soapbox, and highest speed achieved on a gravity-powered snow sled.

A partner at law firm Chattertons told the court on Martin’s behalf that he regretted his conduct.

Due to being convicted of the two offences, Mr Martin will exceed the totting-up threshold. He will not challenge the totting-up six-month disqualification.

A court official said Martin received his sentence at Loughborough Magistrates’ Court last week in a private session, with an order to pay a total of £1,329 in fines, costs and victim surcharges.
