A rowing organization in Oxford has acquired a new six-person sculling boat through a charitable contribution.

The Falcon Boat Club accepted the vessel from Jeff Bethray, who serves as bursar at OMBS Oxford, an independent educational institution providing a post-A-level pathway as an alternative to traditional higher education.

Operating from Donnington Bridge, the club delivers complimentary rowing instruction to students from nearby state schools, with the goal of expanding access to a sport typically associated with privileged backgrounds.

This particular style of six-person sculling craft is far more prevalent on waterways throughout continental Europe than along the Thames.

OMBS stated they were delighted to assist with the initiative, which enables young people to participate in a non-contact athletic activity they would likely never encounter otherwise.

Students from Greyfriars School alongside Falcon Boat Club instructors attended the presentation ceremony.

The organization aspires to bring rowing—perceived by many as an exclusive pastime—into the local community beyond its traditional demographics.
