A Manchester-based alcoholic beverage manufacturer founded in 2016 that provides products to major retailers including Tesco and B&M is at risk of permanent closure after being placed into administration.
Zymurgorium operates from the city and offers what it describes as an eclectic mix of brews and other unique offerings.
The company states on its website that its mission is to provide patrons with exceptional brewing experiences and a journey through diverse flavors. According to its website, it offers a range of products, from fruit and vegetable beers to innovative distillation techniques, and from ancient ciders to honey wines. With a vast selection of ingredients and an almost limitless array of brewing and distilling styles, its goal is to keep taste buds on an exciting adventure.
The range includes meads, craft beers, ciders, gin, liqueurs, and further spirits, along with non-alcoholic options.
Some items can be bought at Tesco, while B&M has previously stocked Zymurgorium products.
After ten years of trading, Zymurgorium ceased operations towards the end of the previous year.
Nicola Clark and Steven Illes from MHA, who have been in contact with stakeholders since February, were appointed as joint administrators on March 26, according to The Gazette.
This comes after the earlier shutdown this year of Zymurgorium’s cocktail establishment, Project Halcyon.
The bar is anticipated to resume trading soon once a new owner is found.
Nicola Clark from MHA commented that they are pleased to have been able to sell the assets of the popular Project Halcyon bar in the St John area of the city to a third party, which will mean that its doors will shortly be opening again. She also stated that they are actively exploring the sale of the trademarks and the recipes of Zymurgorium which made it such a distinctive brand.
Additional significant UK companies that have closed or entered administration in 2026
The start of 2026 has been difficult for the British retail industry, with several businesses entering administration or shutting down.
Major retail chains have been forced to close stores, including River Island, Primark, Poundland, Revolution, and BrewDog.
Various other retailers have fallen into administration, such as Russell and Bromley, Moores, Claire’s and The Original Factory Shop, and Quiz.
Fashion retailer LK Bennett entered administration in January and has now closed all its remaining outlets.
Meanwhile, four UK travel firms have closed in 2026: Regen Central Ltd, Gold Crest Holidays, Asiara UK Ltd, and Simply Florida Travel Ltd.
EcoJet Airlines, billed as the world’s first electric airline, also entered liquidation after just three years, resulting in the cancellation of all planned flights.
UK delivery firm Yodel is set to be wound down over the coming months after being purchased by InPost.
It has also been reported that Morrisons is seeking to divest some of its in-store pharmacies as it continues to reduce expenditure.
The UK high street has not been entirely bleak, with several major brands announcing new store openings for 2026, including Aldi, M&S, and Superdrug.
