A water supplier has issued a communication concerning a burst pipe that caused households and businesses in a nearby village to lose water supply for much of the day.

The supplier announced that a water main fracture took place along a country road during the evening. Company vehicles were spotted at the scene from approximately 8:30am on Monday (April 27).

Supply was cut off for both domestic and commercial users in settlements situated near Abingdon, including the village in question and another adjacent community, with a local primary school having to dismiss all pupils for the day.

On-site teams discovered the broken pipe and managed to isolate it by around 9:15am, with certain water feeds being diverted through alternative routes to reduce the impact on homes currently without service.

A notice issued at approximately 2pm indicated that patrons should have water flowing again, though pressure could still be below usual levels.

A company spokesperson commented: The organisation expressed regret to those in the OX14 area who endured reduced water pressure or no supply following the night’s pipe failure.

Teams have managed to stop water flow from the damaged section, and have been capable of redirecting water through alternative channels to assist in maintaining supply to customers.

Patrons should now have water service restored, though some may still experience lower pressure than usual.

Technical crews are continuing operations at the location to finish repairs, and assistance remains available locally, including bottled water for those signed up to the Priority Services Register.

The company acknowledged the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their tolerance while work continues to fully reinstate water service.
