The accessories chain has ceased operations at all 154 outlets throughout Britain and Ireland, with three stores in Oxfordshire now empty and roughly 1,300 workers facing job losses.

The administrators overseeing the insolvency confirmed approximately 1,300 staff would be made redundant as a result of the shutdown.

The 356 concession counters, many of which trade within Asda stores, and the head office operations remain unaffected by this move.

This came after Modella Capital, the investment company that held ownership of the business, appointed Kroll to handle the administration proceedings earlier in the year.

A spokesperson from Kroll indicated all Claire’s independent stores across the UK and Ireland ceased trading from April 27.

Every retail worker has been informed about their redundancy.

There is awareness that a potential purchaser is negotiating with various property owners about taking on fresh leases for specific sites.

Oxfordshire represented three of the shut branches, including outlets in Didcot and Witney, along with the Oxford Westgate store.

Two Banbury venues also shut permanently last year, situated at Castle Quay Shopping Centre and Banbury Gateway Shopping Park.

Confirmation emerged last Friday (April 24) that the Claire’s store at the local shopping centre would permanently close over the following weekend.

The establishment on the middle level of the shopping complex had featured yellow promotional signage for several weeks before new notices appeared stating only two days remained.

The high street label entered administration in January 2026 alongside The Original Factory Shop (TOFS).
