Oxford’s Market Place goes electric with new vehicle surge

Published on

Electric cars took center stage in Abingdon’s Market Place over the weekend.

Visitors to the Saturday event could view a Tesla, Jeep, MG, and Lotus as part of the Go Electric: Abingdon showcase.

The display also featured electric bicycles, charging equipment, and booths operated by renewable energy firms.

This marked the inaugural event in a countywide initiative aimed at persuading residents to transition to electric vehicles.

With fuel costs climbing because of tensions in Iran, more individuals may choose to switch to electric options.

The gathering united automotive retailers, hobbyists, and energy experts.

Participating dealerships featured Waylands from Cumnor Hill showcasing MG vehicles, and Hartwell in Abingdon presenting newer arrivals to the British market including BYD models.

Private electric vehicle owners from the area also brought their personal cars, sharing insights about daily life with an electric vehicle.

Exhibitors comprised businesses specializing in sidewalk charging installations for properties lacking private driveways, alongside those advocating additional sustainable technologies like heat pumps.

Oxfordshire County Council has supported this initiative as part of its commitment to lowering carbon output and enhancing air quality.
