A Chinese restaurant that shut down along a major thoroughfare in the city may be transformed into a liquor store instead.
Green Bamboo, located on Botley Road and marked as “permanently closed” on internet directories, has filed a licensing request with Oxford City Council to change the former eat-in establishment into a venue for selling alcoholic beverages.

During November 2024, Avtar Singh received authorization to remake the location into a dining establishment, but Manpreet Lalpurwal now intends to launch what could be known as ‘Botley Booze’.
The permit would enable off-premises alcohol sales from 8am until 11pm throughout the entire week.
According to the filing, Avtar Singh Lalpurwal will not be involved in daily operations of the establishment, aside from appearing there to restock inventory.
Those wanting to oppose this request can send an email to licensing@oxford.gov.uk, or view the submission through the council’s website.
