A specialist in educational support has received nationwide acclaim.

Leanne Tomlin, who works at Wantage Church of England Primary School, has been chosen as one of eight contenders nationally for the Teaching Assistant of the Year honour at the TES Schools Awards 2026.

These honours celebrate exceptional accomplishments in teaching and rank among the most prestigious within the sector.

Andy Browne, headteacher at Wantage Church of England Primary School, expressed delight at the announcement that Leanne Tomlin had been selected as a finalist for the TES Schools Awards 2026 in the Teaching Assistant of the Year category. He noted this constitutes a tremendous achievement, considering that only eight people are picked from across the United Kingdom. He stated it is fantastic individuals such as Leanne who help make the school such an especially outstanding place.

Her candidacy received backing from colleagues throughout the school, along with external support, including from the programme director at Ruth Miskin Training.

Zoe Pike, assistant headteacher, said this is thoroughly merited recognition for an outstanding practitioner who constantly goes above and beyond. She noted that Leanne acts as an unrecognised champion of the school, and that staff take great pleasure in seeing her work celebrated on a national scale.

Richard Evans, chief executive of Cambrian Learning Trust, similarly expressed praise for Ms Tomlin. He observed that Leanne’s recognition reflects their shared dedication to nurturing growth and supporting education, building solid foundations for success and enabling every individual to flourish. He mentioned they are delighted she is gaining national attention and trust she performs well in the concluding stage.

The TES Schools Awards ceremony is set to take place later this year in the capital city.
