Public amenities at a park in Oxfordshire are set to reopen after local input prompted a council rethink.

West Oxfordshire District Council is making arrangements for the toilets at The Leys Park in Witney to become operational again, having closed them at the end of March.

A complaint was raised by local resident Rosie Jones, who visits the site daily.

She said the facilities should remain available until Courtside opens completely, and asked whether they could be unlocked until the new Courtside amenities are ready.

Courtside refers to the new multi-activity centre and community café currently under construction within the park grounds.

The development is expected to finish by late May, with a takeaway service already operating there during the construction phase.

The council closed six of its 13 managed public toilets in late March, alongside plans to modernise other sites including Langdale Gate in Witney.

Councillor Lidia Arciszewska, the executive member overseeing environmental services, said the decision was based on usage figures.

She noted that where facilities were closing, adequate alternatives could be found nearby, guaranteeing continued access for everyone. The approach intends to provide better, more appealing services in areas with highest need while spending public money wisely.

However, recognising the hardship faced by people such as Ms Jones, the toilets at The Leys will be brought back into use, with the council working alongside Danfo on the revival.

Additionally, an official conveyed apologies to Ms Jones for any inconvenience experienced.
