The aristocrat from the UK is set to stand trial after police allege he was traveling at 80mph in an area with a 50mph speed limit.

James Spencer-Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough who resides at Blenheim Palace, has previously rejected two allegations against him.

The 70-year-old stands accused of operating a Hyundai at 80mph along Woodstock Road in Yarnton, where the speed limit is 50mph, on October 18, 2024.

He also faces a charge of declining to identify a driver who was allegedly responsible for an offence.

The defendant entered pleas of not guilty to both matters on September 29 of the previous year.

Originally scheduled for January proceedings, the trial has now been rescheduled to May 8 at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court.

Earlier this year, the Duke appeared before Oxford Crown Court facing three counts of intentional strangulation targeting his separated wife, Elda Marlborough, occurring between November 2022 and May 2024.

He had previously entered not guilty pleas in the lower court, though formal arraignment did not take place.

The court was informed that a motion to dismiss the case will be considered on June 22 of this year.

A provisional trial date has been set for January 10, 2028, with proceedings expected to last between 10 and 12 days.

The 70-year-old has been released on bail.

He has prior imprisonment experience. In 1995, he served one month behind bars for falsifying prescriptions.

In September 2007, he received a six-month prison sentence for two counts of dangerous driving and one count of criminal damage.
