A support worker who previously assisted in delivering a colleague’s newborn has been recognised with a prestigious accolade.

Rajaa El Bendadi, a wellbeing assistant at Benson House Care Home in Wallingford, secured the Care Home Worker Award at the Oxfordshire Care Awards.

The ceremony, arranged by the Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers, took place at The Oxford Belfry on March 21 to honour exceptional achievements in care throughout the county.

Cathy Deocadez, home manager at Benson House, remarked that the team considers itself extremely fortunate to have Rajaa as part of their Wellbeing team, adding that she provides far more than just her formal role to the entire community at Benson House.

She noted numerous instances where Rajaa has intervened and made a significant impact on residents, family members, or colleagues, and expressed that she holds her contributions to the care home in very high regard.

She expressed her delight that Rajaa’s efforts and commitment had received acknowledgment through this award.

Ms El Bendadi is recognised for her empathetic and individualised method of care, with relatives identifying her as among the most sought-after members of staff.

One relative commented that she dedicates herself tirelessly to establishing a welcoming, stimulating, and nurturing atmosphere for residents, with her patience, compassion and imagination evident in both the activities she organises and the personal attention she provides.

Ms El Bendadi previously aided in the birth of a colleague’s child when the colleague went into labour at home without assistance, subsequently transporting both the infant and mother to medical facilities.

The child was subsequently named Rajaa.
