What is the Banbury Cross?
For those who don’t know, the Banbury Cross is a 16-metre neo-Gothic monument. While it inspires the nursery rhyme “Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross,” the current cross was built in 1859 to celebrate the wedding of Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter.

Officers continue to investigate the scene, which is understood to need forensic examination.
