Witney Parkinson’s café opens at Richmond Villages with over 30 at first session

A support initiative has launched in Witney to provide a regular gathering space for individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Richmond Villages Witney has established a monthly café, with the inaugural event attracting more than 30 participants.

The facility confirmed that the upcoming meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21.

Attendance is available to all those impacted by Parkinson’s, including relatives and companions.

According to Jo Cambrey, head of lifestyle and wellbeing at Richmond Villages Witney, the opening gathering saw strong attendance numbers, and residents expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with fellow attendees.

The programme aims to deliver an informal environment where individuals managing Parkinson’s can interact socially.

The establishment of the café originated following discussions between Richmond Villages and Parkinson’s UK regarding the possibility of arranging a presentation.

Representatives from the charity subsequently recommended the venue as a location for ongoing community meetings, presenting residents of the West Witney region with an opportunity to build connections and exchange personal experiences.

Support will be available at each session from a member of Parkinson’s UK staff, who will be present to address enquiries and provide informational materials.

Katy Slade, area development manager at Parkinson’s UK, noted that a Parkinson’s diagnosis often comes as unexpected news, and that adjusting to life with the condition presents difficulties both for the individual and their family members.

Access to appropriate guidance and assistance at relevant moments can prove valuable, according to the organisation.

Regular meetings will occur on the third Wednesday of every month between 2.30pm and 4pm.

The venue is situated at Richmond Villages Witney on Coral Springs Way.
