The comedy rap act MC Devvo has appealed directly to potential audience members ahead of a scheduled performance in Oxford later this week.
The entertainer, whose birth name is Christian David Webb, first gained recognition during the mid-2000s through viral internet videos centred on the eccentric Devvo persona, developed in collaboration with animator David Firth.
Following this initial breakthrough, the Doncaster-based act secured a slot on E4’s Funny Cuts compilation in 2006.
Webb has continued collaborating with Firth on various creative undertakings since that time.
A studio album titled From Yorkshire to New York emerged in 2007, and the performer announced a nationwide return tour across the United Kingdom for 2026.
However, advance ticket sales for Friday’s show at The Bullingdon are reported to be running at disappointing levels.
He explained that this figure essentially covered the cost of hiring the venue, and unless additional tickets were purchased, proceeding with the show might prove financially unviable.
He urged followers to buy tickets and attend what he described as an evening of music, entertainment, and personal anecdotes.
A subsequent video posted on social media platforms two days prior to the event indicated that the sales situation had not improved.
The performer informed followers that the Oxford date would essentially represent payment for staff wages at the venue for the evening.
