The Oxford Half Marathon marked its largest gathering yet this Sunday as a record number of 15,000 participants completed the 13.1-mile course during the event’s 15th anniversary celebration.

The route commenced in the city centre and traversed past notable Oxford landmarks, including the Radcliffe Camera, while large crowds gathered along the course to offer encouragement.

In the men’s competition, 28-year-old Radley-based athlete Alex Miell-Ingram secured his first victory after previously coming close on multiple occasions.

Miell-Ingram finished in one hour, seven minutes and 22 seconds, maintaining his lead throughout the field to claim the title.

The women’s division was won by Bicester resident Charlie Arnell, who successfully retained her Oxford Half Marathon championship.

She completed the course in one hour, 14 minutes and 27 seconds, falling just 46 seconds short of the personal best she established at last year’s Berlin half marathon.

Beyond the elite runners, participants of varying abilities crossed the finish line, collectively raising over £1.3 million for charitable causes during the event’s 15th edition since its inception in 2011.

Conditions proved ideal with bright skies and dry weather drawing substantial spectator numbers.

The atmosphere along the course was carnival-like, with supporters ringing cowbells, shouting words of encouragement and holding aloft handmade cardboard signs.

Fancy dress attire and Santa Claus accompanied by several reindeer contributed visual interest to the occasion, while musical entertainment and race commentators maintained high spirits among competitors throughout the road race.
