Richard Hammond has spoken publicly about the forthcoming revival of Top Gear following confirmation from the BBC that the programme will return to screens.

The television presenter expressed support for the announcement, stating that a genuine demand exists for such a programme in the current climate.

In comments reported by the Mirror, Hammond emphasized that Top Gear continues to represent a cornerstone of the BBC’s programming portfolio during a period of significant transformation within the motoring sector.

Hammond explained that the distinctions between vehicles have evolved dramatically in recent years.

Previously, the primary variations between car models involved colour options and features such as electric windows.

The landscape has shifted considerably, with vehicles now available with entirely different propulsion methods, and individual models suiting different individuals in varying ways.

Hammond indicated that guidance for consumers navigating these choices would prove valuable to many viewers.

The BBC confirmed the previous week that Top Gear would be revived, marking the return of one of the corporation’s most prominent television brands.

The programme had been suspended following an accident sustained by Freddie Flintoff during filming in 2022.

Hammond rose to prominence through his work on Top Gear alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

The three presenters elevated the show into an international television success before later collaborating again on the Amazon Prime Video series The Grand Tour.

Hammond is scheduled to appear in Oxfordshire later this week at Salon Privé, the prestigious automotive event hosted at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock.

The gathering runs from Thursday through Sunday, with Hammond expected to be present for both the Supercar Saturday and Supercar Sunday portions of the programme.
