Larmans Burger Van in Abingdon back to good hygiene rating after reinspection

A burger business that received a substandard hygiene rating has now achieved a positive assessment following a follow-up inspection.

Larmans Burger Van, trading as The Butty Wagon, located in the car park of the B&Q store in Abingdon adjacent to Fairacres Retail Park, was examined by officers from Oxford City Council’s Environmental Health Team during February.

Inspectors identified that the establishment required improvement across multiple areas of its operation.

The management of food safety procedures was flagged as requiring major improvement, encompassing the systems and monitoring in place to guarantee that food offered for sale was safe for consumption and demonstrating that personnel possessed adequate knowledge regarding food safety protocols.

The sanitary practices involved in food handling, covering preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage, also received an improvement necessary designation.

Additionally, the condition and hygiene standards of the premises and equipment, including the suitability of the layout, ventilation systems, hand washing amenities and pest management measures, were similarly assessed as requiring improvement.

Following a subsequent inspection conducted in July, environmental health officers returned and concluded that no remedial action was needed across any assessment category.

The standards observed for sanitary food handling were classified as generally satisfactory.

The condition and maintenance of the premises and facilities earned a very good rating, while food safety management procedures were deemed good.

The business has now been awarded a rating of four out of five.

During the period when the lower rating was in effect, residents in the local area expressed support for the establishment, describing it as a fundamental part of the community.
