A specialist travel agency has ceased operations and is in the process of securing an insolvency practitioner following financial difficulties.
Wayfairer Travel Limited, which was established in 2012, focused on creating bespoke itineraries for international destinations, with popular offerings including trips to the Maldives, Japan, Peru, and Egypt.
After operating for more than 14 years, the company has now halted all bookings and services with immediate effect.
A company representative indicated that the business was experiencing significant challenges and required professional guidance before any further announcements could be made.
The statement noted that internal discussions were progressing and that a formal communication would follow during the week beginning 31 August.
The representative expressed regret for the disruption caused to customers and thanked them for their understanding during this period.
The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust confirmed receipt of notification regarding the company’s situation.
The organisation stated that since Wayfairer could not guarantee the completion of existing bookings, it would be implementing support measures for qualifying British customers.
The trust advised anyone with arrangements scheduled up to and including 30 September 2026 against proceeding with travel.
Customers with departures scheduled beyond that date were instructed to wait for additional guidance unless contacted directly with alternative instructions.
Refund arrangements differ depending on how a booking was originally secured.
Customers holding an ATOL Certificate should contact ABTOT using the dedicated claims channel.
Those without such certification who are resident in the United Kingdom should initially pursue reimbursement through their payment provider.
Should that route prove unsuccessful, written documentation of the refusal must be obtained before approaching ABTOT through Gallagher Bassett.
Non-UK residents are not covered by the ABTOT scheme and should instead pursue remedies through their card issuer, insurance provider, or booking agent.
Multiple other British travel businesses have also ceased trading or entered insolvency proceedings during 2026.
These include Regen Central Limited, Gold Crest Holidays, Asiara UK Limited, Simply Florida Travel Limited, Trav Expert Limited, Strachan Travel Limited, Travel Bespoke Limited, Groupia Limited, Global Vision International, Ski Yodl Limited, TS Travels Group, Yourtravelshop.com, TS Travel Realisations Limited, Firefly Holidays, Fraser Travel Limited, and Golf Villa Rentals Limited.
Separately, several British carriers have undergone liquidation or administration procedures this year, comprising Ascend Airways, EcoJet Airlines, Zenith Aviation Limited, and European Cargo.
