A trainee firefighter has described a recent emergency response drill as highly beneficial.
Bicester Fire Station conducted a simulated road traffic collision scenario involving two people who required rescue from wreckage.
One of the simulated victims was a live casualty.
The training exercise formed part of the development programme for firefighter Brock, who showcased essential rescue competencies during the session.
Techniques practiced included the dashboard roll method, employed to liberate trapped lower extremities; various approaches to gaining access through locked or damaged vehicle doors; and complete roof removal procedures.
All methods focused on extracting the casualty from the vehicle safely.
According to Brock, the session provided valuable learning opportunities and represented meaningful progress toward completing the qualification programme.
On-call firefighter positions are currently available at the north-Oxfordshire-based station.
