The Great British Bake Off star Paul Hollywood has been observed arriving at the programme’s filming location driving a luxury Lamborghini sports car, according to a former contestant on the show.
Matty Edgell, who claimed victory in the 2023 series, disclosed in an interview conducted ahead of the new season that he witnessed the television presenter reach the tent driving a Lamborghini on multiple occasions.
Edgell described Hollywood as an enthusiast for high-performance vehicles, noting that the presenter had turned up in an expensive Italian sports car during filming.
The former champion confirmed that Hollywood was not being transported by a driver, stating that the presenter preferred to handle the vehicle himself and seemed unwilling to forgo the experience of operating such cars.
Edgell expressed that he would not find it surprising if Hollywood had also arrived at the set by helicopter on certain occasions, while acknowledging that he personally had not witnessed this mode of transport.
Regarding Hollywood’s character away from the cameras, Edgell characterized him as genuinely pleasant, noting that he provided valuable guidance and demonstrated a sincere desire to see contestants perform well.
These observations follow reports concerning the introduction of new judge Nigella Lawson, an Oxford University graduate, who is said to have been unimpressed by certain aspects of Hollywood’s behaviour on set.
A source quoted by the Daily Mail alleged that Lawson considered the theatrical arrivals somewhat awkward, characterizing the helicopter use as an assertion of status and labelling Hollywood’s conduct as lacking sophistication.
The same account suggested that the distinction between Lawson’s modest approach to travel and Hollywood’s more ostentatious methods had generated amusement among production staff as the new judging partnership establishes itself.
