An investigation has been commenced following reports of a stabbing in an Oxfordshire town that left a man with serious injuries requiring hospitalisation.
Thames Valley Police confirmed it attended Horse Fair in Banbury at 6.30am on September 4, establishing cordons around People’s Park and St Mary’s Churchyard.
A force representative later confirmed that a man aged in his 30s was attacked and sustained serious injuries necessitating medical treatment.
According to police, the injuries are not considered life-threatening, though the victim remains in hospital at present.
Officers confirmed the incident involved a stabbing.
Detective Inspector James Holden-White, the officer leading the investigation, stated that while an incident of this nature may generate concern among local residents, the force is treating it as a priority case.
Police believe the assault was deliberate and targeted, with those involved possibly having prior acquaintance.
Authorities indicated that cordons at People’s Park and St Mary’s Churchyard would be lifted shortly, with members of the public advised to steer clear of these areas in the interim.
A heightened police presence has been established throughout the area, and officers have asked anyone with queries to approach a uniformed member of the force.
