The new presenting team for The Grand Tour has revealed that Jeremy Clarkson offered them some strong-worded guidance ahead of filming the show’s latest incarnation.
The first series hosted by the revamped lineup is set to premiere on Friday, September 4.
James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, known for their work with Throttle House, have joined alongside internet personality Francis Bourgeois to lead the programme following the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
The six-part Prime Video production follows the three newcomers as they embark on various automotive-themed challenges, representing a fresh direction for the long-running motoring programme.
During an appearance on BBC’s The One Show this week, the trio discussed their preparations for taking over the helm of the popular car show.
The conversation turned to the advice they received from Oxfordshire-based farmer Clarkson.
When questioned about what guidance they had received, Engelsman explained that Clarkson’s communication style is well-known to those familiar with his approach.
The advice delivered was described as brief and unsuitable for broadcast on BBC One.
The presenters then joked among themselves about whether the instruction had essentially amounted to avoiding mistakes.
Holland confirmed the substance of the exchange, acknowledging it was along those lines, though not phrased exactly as suggested.
According to Engelsman, viewers will witness the guidance firsthand when the opening episode concludes.
Clarkson, Hammond and May concluded their tenure together in 2024 with a final programme titled One For The Road.
The special marked the conclusion of more than twenty years during which the trio presented motoring content on television, including their celebrated period with Top Gear.
