Rail services connecting the capital and Oxford experienced significant delays following a vegetation fire adjacent to railway infrastructure.
The incident, which occurred near Scrubs Lane in the North Kensington area, disrupted operations across the entire network before trains were able to resume running.
The blaze, which broke out shortly after 4.10pm on Saturday, resulted in a loss of electrical power to the overhead lines.
This fault halted all train movements along the corridor linking Paddington station with Heathrow Airport, according to an update from National Rail.
The London Fire Brigade deployed six appliances and approximately 40 firefighters to tackle the flames.
Emergency crews subsequently assisted in the evacuation of roughly 380 passengers who had been stranded aboard an Elizabeth Line service, working alongside Transport for London personnel.
Social media imagery captured extensive clouds of smoke billowing from the Paddington vicinity as the incident unfolded.
Following the fire’s suppression, National Rail confirmed that Elizabeth Line services operating between Maidenhead, Reading and the capital would adhere to a modified schedule from 7.40am onwards.
Great Western Railway operations were also subject to alterations, with several morning trains subject to revised departure times.
A diminished intercity service was scheduled to operate between Paddington and both Reading and Didcot Parkway on Sunday.
By Saturday evening, Great Western Railway indicated that the majority of its routes were running without significant delays following the earlier clearance of the incident.
