An animal welfare facility located in the Cotswold region has issued a warning regarding what it describes as a deepening kitten crisis after five felines were discovered abandoned.
The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home confirmed that the kittens, believed to be approximately five weeks of age, were discovered in an abandoned state and subsequently transported to the facility by a member of the local community.
The animals have been assigned the names Patricia, Patrick, Pamela, Pauline and Petunia.
Staff members at the centre reported that the kittens displayed signs of fear and limited socialisation, having experienced minimal prior interaction with humans.
A representative from the organisation explained that upon their arrival, the kittens were small, anxious and entirely dependent on human intervention for survival.
At their developmental stage, the animals would ordinarily remain under the care of their mother, acquiring essential knowledge and skills from her.
Instead, the centre’s staff were required to assume this maternal responsibility.
The representative noted that witnessing the transformation brought about by two weeks of intensive attention had proved deeply satisfying.
Four of the five kittens were born with tail abnormalities.
Two animals were born completely without tails, while the remaining two possessed small, malformed tails.
The rescue facility has been delivering continuous care encompassing frequent feeding sessions, grooming, toilet training and socialisation exercises.
Centre representatives indicated that this particular situation illustrates a broader pattern of increasing kitten abandonment affecting rescue organisations across the region.
The representative emphasised that while the facility would always commit its full resources to assisting animals in distress, such efforts cannot be sustained without additional support.
The financial demands placed upon charitable rescue organisations are substantial, and as the volume of animals requiring assistance continues to grow, so too do the associated costs of providing their care.
The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home is currently seeking public support through donations to assist with its ongoing operations.
