Criminals broke into a property in the Cotswolds area during the night after forcing entry through a shattered glass panel in a rear door.
Thames Valley Police confirmed the incident occurred at a residence on Station Road in Shipton-Under-Wychwood, with the break-in taking place during the night between Tuesday September 15 and Wednesday September 16.
A second burglary was reported in Middle Barton on the same dates, with investigators noting a pattern of offenders selecting properties that appear unoccupied.
Officers warned that offenders focus on homes that seem empty, making off with currency, valuables and items made from precious metals.
According to the force, those responsible for such crimes frequently look for obvious indicators that a property is not in use, such as curtains remaining drawn throughout daylight hours, accumulated post gathering behind the entrance, or driveways showing no signs of vehicle activity.
Security recommendations provided to householders included the use of automated lighting systems or internet-connected bulbs controllable via mobile devices, arranging for someone to inspect the premises periodically, and maintaining the appearance of occupancy while residents are elsewhere.
Additional precautions encompassed securing all entry points with deadlocks, fitting an audible alarm system, and deploying video doorbells or surveillance cameras.
